Do Nothing Fees
A lot of business owners and ISO's know all too well about "do-nothing-fees". These are fees that other merchant service providers charge to business owners that do absolutely nothing for them. A few great examples are "PCI-DSS Non Compliance Fee", "PCI-DSS Breach Assistance Fee", "Monthly Debit Access Fee". It is really surprising to us what other merchant service providers will charge when no one is looking. It's one reason we strongly advise all business owners to review their statements and read the statement messages every month.
While we can't change the world and stop all the "do-nothing-fees" out there - we can ensure that at least our clients and ISO partners never have to worry about them. The only time we increase our rates or asses new fees is when our expenses are increased (i.e. when Visa® or MasterCard® increase interchange rates or add an association fee). We view rate increases and fee assessments as a way to maintain the agreed upon margins on accounts - not take advantage of merchants.
